Technical Audit & Modernization: Know What to Fix, What to Rebuild, and in What Order
If your website or application has become slow, fragile, or expensive to change, we audit it as it really is — the site or CMS, the frontend, the backend, hosting, database, APIs and automations — and tell you honestly what to fix, what to leave alone, and what should be rebuilt. You get a clear, prioritized picture of the technical debt and performance issues, plus a modernization plan you can act on in stages instead of a risky full rewrite. Billed in 30-minute increments, no subscription, remote worldwide, with a reply within two business hours.
Situations that usually lead to an audit
- Your site loads slowly and Core Web Vitals are in the red on PageSpeed / Search Console, and you don't know which change would actually move the needle.
- Every small change breaks something else, deployments are stressful, and no one is sure what depends on what any more.
- A quote for a full rebuild landed on your desk and you can't tell if it's justified or if the current system could be salvaged.
- The developer or agency who built it is gone, there's little documentation, and you're not sure how the pieces fit together.
- The application runs on an old framework, CMS or PHP/Node version and you've been told it's 'end of life' but you don't know the real risk or urgency.
- Hosting costs keep climbing, the server looks fine, yet the app is slow or falls over under load.
- You want to add a new feature or integration but the codebase feels too tangled to touch safely.
- You're mid-migration (host, CMS, framework, payment provider) and things are half-broken with no clear rollback.
- The database has grown messy over years, queries are slow, and backups or data integrity are a question mark.
- You need a neutral, technical second opinion before committing budget — not a sales pitch from whoever wants to build the replacement.
How we run the audit (in order)
- We start from the symptom and the real environment: what breaks, when, for whom, and on which URLs or actions — plus stack, hosting, versions and access. We reproduce the problem before theorizing about it.
- We measure performance objectively: real Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) from field and lab data, time-to-first-byte, render-blocking assets, image and font weight, cache and CDN behaviour, and slow database queries — so speed work targets the actual bottleneck, not guesses.
- We map the system and its dependencies: frontend, backend, CMS/framework and plugin/library versions, APIs, cron jobs, automations and third-party services, flagging what's end-of-life, unmaintained or a security exposure.
- We assess technical debt and risk concretely: fragile coupling, missing tests, error logs and recurring exceptions (500s, timeouts, memory limits, deprecation warnings), backup and rollback gaps, and the parts that make every change dangerous.
- We give a fix-vs-rebuild verdict, module by module: what to repair now, what to leave as-is, what to refactor, and the rare parts that genuinely warrant a rewrite — with the reasoning, not a blanket 'rebuild everything'.
- We hand you a prioritized modernization roadmap: quick wins first, then staged improvements you can ship incrementally while the site stays live — and we can execute it with you or hand it to your team.
Technologies & environments — examples, not a limit
Your stack isn't in this list? It isn't meant to be a compatibility checklist. Tell us the problem and your environment, and we'll quickly confirm whether we can take it on — we work by locating the layer where the issue lives, not by the brand name of the technology.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a technical audit cost?
There's no subscription and no fixed package. We bill in 30-minute increments for the time spent, so a focused audit stays proportional to the size of your system. After a short exchange about your environment we can give you a realistic estimate of the scope.
How long does an audit take?
A targeted performance or single-app audit is often a matter of hours; a full system with many integrations takes longer. We reply within two business hours, and once we have access we can usually give first findings quickly rather than making you wait for a big final report.
Should I fix my current site or rebuild it from scratch?
That's exactly what the audit answers, module by module. In most cases a full rebuild isn't necessary — targeted fixes and staged modernization are cheaper and less risky. We only recommend rebuilding the specific parts where the evidence genuinely justifies it.
Can you improve my Core Web Vitals?
Yes. We measure real field and lab data to find the actual bottleneck — render-blocking assets, oversized images or fonts, slow server response, layout shift — then fix the causes rather than chasing the score. Speed work is prioritized by what will move LCP, INP and CLS the most.
The people who built my site are gone and there's no documentation. Can you still audit it?
Yes, this is a common situation for us. We reverse-engineer how the system fits together from the code, configuration, logs and hosting, then document the dependencies as we go. You end up understanding your own system again, whoever built it.
Do you do the modernization work too, or just the report?
Both. The audit ends with a prioritized roadmap, and you can hand it to your own team or have us execute it — starting with quick wins and progressing in stages while the site stays online. There's no obligation to continue with us after the audit.
Tell us what's slow, fragile or uncertain about your site or application, along with your environment and access. We'll confirm we can take it on and outline the audit scope, so you can decide with facts instead of a sales pitch. Request a quote to get started.
